Heraklion (also Iraklio) is the capital and busy port city of Crete, the largest and most populated island in Greece.
Heraklion is one of the four main areas of Crete and also its capital city. Known also as Iraklio the city is bustling all year round and a vibrant port city. There’s a lot to see and do with day trips to neighbouring Chania and tours around Heraklion as well.
It has several beautiful beaches like Matala, ancient ruins and sites such as the Palace of Knossos and is full with Venetian archaeology. It’s a great base for visiting the East side of the island and its hidden gems.
