Hotel De Russie’s tranquil spa in Rome, Italy

My birthday fell during my trip to Rome, so I decided to have a pamper session.  I wanted to find somewhere to have a treatment or two, but also be able to use other facilities like a pool or sauna.   After checking a few places, one caught my eye.  Here’s my review of Hotel de Russie’s spa, Rome.

Hotel de Russie

Hotel de Russie, part of Rocco Forte Hotels group, is located near Piazza del Popolo on Via Del Babuino, the Street that leads to the famous Spanish Steps.  The five-star hotel from the outside is at first deceiving. However, it’s grandiose size is in fact neatly hidden behind smart white brick work, peach painted upper walls and balconies finished with green shutters. As you pass through the lobby its modern, yet somewhat traditional, décor greets you. Once you approach the spa, you get a whiff of the fragrances that will be used to help you relax and unwind.

Facilities, amenities and services

Behind glass doors the scent from a burning candle greets you as you walk into the spa reception area.  While you wait, you’re offered refreshments.

You’re then allocated a locker and depending on the package you’ve chosen, you’ll then discuss which you’d prefer to do first. The scent of the candle runs through to the changing room area.  Decorated in subtle tones of blue and made up of mosaic tiling and brown wood accessories, the changing area has all the standard necessities you’ll need for your stay. Inside your locker you’ll find a thick white dressing gown, flip-flops, a shower cap and bag.  I had my suitcase with me (hand luggage size) and the lockers easily accommodated that as well as my backpack.

The wet area

Hotel de Russie’s wet area is nothing but tranquil.  It glistens with an aqua and gold mosaic décor throughout. Tiny lights recessed into the ceiling like stars, and boat-like white rattan loungers on either side of the hydro pool. The wet area also features a steam room, jacuzzi, Turkish steam bath.

For those with treatments booked, the wet area is complimentary.  If you just want some time to relax and unwind, then you can opt for the hotels day spa option.  The cost includes use of all features and services within the wet area, and you also get use of the locker room including the bathrobe and branded flip flops. Like any spa there’s a whole host of different treatments that will give you the pampering you require.  With a range of massages, facials, manicures and pedicures, and reflexology, you can pretty much have any type of treatment.  The treatments allow you to pick and mix. If you prefer, you can choose one of the specially created pamper packages such as its Beauty Day or the Energising Jet-lag.  I chose a full body massage and pedicure which was amazing!

Hotel De Russie - waiting for my treatments

It was very relaxing and something I was definitely in need of!  It was a nice treat for the day and as it was my birthday, it made the experience even better. I enjoyed it so much I decided to have a manicure on another day.  I combined it with some time at Pincio Terrace.

Overall

The staff at the spa were really friendly and they made my time there enjoyable.  Barbara, the lady that gave me all my treatments, was lovely and only too happy to help.  She always made sure I was okay and explained what she was doing – except during the massage – I dozed off!  I only contacted the spa a few days prior to arriving to check they could accommodate me at short notice – which they did.  Anna and Francesca sorted everything out for me.

Final thoughts

I’d definitely go back.  If you’re in need of a little pampering, Hotel de Russie makes a good choice right in the heart of Rome.
