Plus Florence is a hostel part of the Plus Hostel group, with other locations in Berlin, Venice and Rome. Plus Florence is located about a 15-minute walk away from Santa Maria Novella train station. If you’re looking for a really good place to stay that’s close to some of the main attractions, then read my review of Plus Florence hostel, Italy.
It was my first time in a hostel on my own, so I opted for a single room rather than sharing a dorm. If I’m honest I didn’t have that much experience with hostels. I’d stayed in one before with a friend for one night, but it ended up being just us in the dorm. Before booking, I didn’t even know you could have private rooms to yourself in a hostel until I came across this one. I just presumed they’d all be shared rooms.
The room wasn’t anything like I thought it would be like. I did look at pictures online, but I guess I wanted to be realistic so as not to be let down. It definitely surpassed my expectations! The room was extremely large for a hostel. It had a neutral yet warming decoration with plum coloured bed linen. There were views overlooking the pool and grounds from my window and it was light and airy. There’s a wardrobe which you can lock using a padlock, so remember to bring one! The room had an en-suite bathroom which was a generous size. It had spotlights around the bed, a desk, and there was also a flat screen TV. The room was very much like being in a hotel.
Plus Florence is perfectly positioned far enough from the crowds around the main piazzas, but close enough to walk to some of the tourist attractions nearby like National Academia, Uffizi Gallery and the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. It’s not too far from Santa Maria Novella train station and bus and coach stops. The road leading to the hostel is right opposite the station. There’s plenty of shops, off licences, and cafés in the area as well as gelato bars. If you need a snack, you’re sure to find something. You can pretty much walk everywhere in Florence if you’re staying in or very near the centre. It’s very easy to get around.
There is an indoor bar, disco area, outdoor pool and bar, indoor pool, sauna and Turkish bath. Plus Florence is definitely somewhere to relax and unwind while making new friends. Unlike some hostels it offers free linen and laundry/washing facilities.
There’s also free Wi-Fi available in all rooms and communal areas; and computers. If you feel like a workout, guests can make use of its cardio equipment for free. The hostel also has a roof terrace offering views over Florence – lovely on a good night. There’s also Plus Girls – female only dorms if you prefer not to stay in one of the mixed ones.
I loved my stay at Plus Florence. It’s very clean and tidy; lots to do there as well as places to visit close by. Staff there were always very pleasant, helpful and willing to answer any questions you have. Plus Hotels.
