A review of Stelios Place – Santorini

A home away from home – Stelios Place

I’d looked at hotels, B&Bs and hostels and once I’d narrowed down my top three, I checked out a few reviews for each.  Stelios Place stood out more than the others.  It wasn’t just the rating or number of reviews it had, it was the quality of them.  I sensed travellers that had stayed there really had a good time.   They spoke of their experiences with the owner and his family and I got the impression they were treated like family. Stelios Place, a home away from home.  It sounded like the experience I was looking for.  I was excited to stay somewhere that had such great reviews, and from the moment I landed to arriving at the hotel, I understood why.

Stelios Place is a hotel located in Perissa Village, Santorini.  Set in the midst of palm trees and flowers, Mountain Mesa Vouno is its backdrop.

The service from Stelios Place starts as soon as you open the door to your room.  You’re greeted with a welcome basket filled with a bottle of wine, cake and fruits – perfect if you’re arriving at an unsociable hour and fancy a snack.

They also give you a little postcard to send to someone back home – nice touch.  This little treat sets the tone for your stay

The room

With a double room on the first floor, I was very impressed with its size. It was larger than I was expecting and brightly decorated in orange and cream, with splashes of brown here and there from the accessories and furniture. Kitted out with a wall hung flat screen TV, large mirror, table, small fridge and a wardrobe, the room had everything I’d need for my stay. There was also a safe in the wardrobe and a luggage rack.  The bathroom was beautifully tiled light cream and dark brown and was large enough for one person.  For me personally the bathroom is just as important as the room itself as this is how you can really measure cleanliness.  It was immaculate!  The room also had a private balcony with a small table and two chairs overlooking the pool and main building.

The pictures I’d seen when checking reviews and traveller pictures were spot on!  The hotel offers a variety of room types from doubles to quadruples, to suit solo travellers, couples and families.  They’re all just as spacious dependable on the room type and styled in a very similar way (I had a peek at one of the others).  Like most hotels, there will be a surcharge for single occupancy on a double or twin room

Location

Stelios place is perfectly positioned for getting around the island and is located very close to the black sands of Perissa beach.  It’s also a stone’s throw away from the main road and bustling strip near the beach, making night life within reach.  You’ll be able to spend time in some of the bars along the way, like Tranquilo.  Turning left out of the hotel takes you to the beach (5 minutes), and if you’re in need of snacks or other necessities, turning right takes you to the main road where, in either direction, you’ll find a supermarket (10-12 minutes depending).

If you’re looking to take any tours or a boat trip out to one of the other beaches or neighbouring seaside village Kamari, there’s a dock by Mountain Mesa Vouno or Athinos Port is about a 20-minute drive away.  If you’re looking to take a trip to Fira, Oia or one of the other villages, then after turning right out of the hotel across the main road is the bus stop.  Conveniently located Stelios Place, in my opinion, is in the perfect spot.

Facilities, services and amenities

Boasting a decent size outdoor swimming pool, free WiFi access in all rooms and communal areas, two laptops for guests and a sun terrace, Stelios Place has enough to keep you occupied should you decide trips and tours are not for you every day.  I found many people lounging by the pool with a few in the same spot each day.  I met another couple who stay at Stelios Place when they can but as they’ve been to all the main tourist attractions, they simply spend time relaxing.

Stelios Place offers a varied menu despite having a self-catering policy. You’ll have enough to choose from and you can purchase a full breakfast or snacks for a small charge.  They also allow guests to have full use of the kitchen area if you want to prepare your own meals.  Stelios Place also offers a free shuttle service if you stay more than one night. That option is perfect if you’re arriving late or want to save on the costs of a taxi.

The hotel’s nice amenities, great customer service, good location and its popularity means you’ll find the average price per night slightly higher compared with other nearby properties of a similar size and offering.  This is down to the great reputation the hotel has built.

Stelios Place, Perissa – a home away from home.  The service you’ll receive will be welcoming and the family friendly and accommodating.

I’d love to hear where you stayed in Santorini! Send me your Santorini stays!
