After finally deciding on which leg of Halkidiki to visit (Sithonia in the end), I finally narrowed down where I’d stay while there. I ended up having a wonderful stay at Egeon Studios in Neos Marmaras.
Even though I’d seen the pictures when booking, the room was more than I’d expected. It was very spacious and felt very homely which I loved. It was a blend of traditional Greek decor with more modern fixtures and fittings in the en-suite bathroom.
There was full kitchen facilities in the room – a hob, sink, utensils and a fridge – handy should you feel like cooking up a storm! I didn’t as I was out and about too much! There was even seasoning, drink straws and an ice cube tray too.
A table and chairs sits against one side of the wall, and there was also a large wooden wardrobe and a flat screen TV with satellite channels.
One of the first things I liked about the studios was the beautiful rooftop terrace. It had a fantastic view of Neos Marmaras below, and you could also see what’s known as Turtle Island in the distance. I enjoyed relaxing there on a couple of evenings either watching the sunset or later in the night as the town went to sleep.
Facilities on the terrace include a large BBQ which all guests have full use of during their stay. I met a couple and their daughter who were roasting pineapples which they kindly shared with me. There’s plenty of differing options for seating from low comfy low chairs and sofas to little tables and chairs.
Laundry service is also available and there’s have good WiFi access throughout the property. Dotted around you’ll come across board games and books giving you something to do if you don’t fancy going out. The host, Eleni, certainly caters to everyone that stays.
Egeon Studios is only a 5-minute walk from the main town and 10-minutes from the long stretch of sandy beach. In Neos Marmaras you’ll find plenty of souvenir shops, bars, restaurants and cafes.
One place to go for Gyros – a Greek kebab – was Roma Pizza. There’s also a few supermarkets nearby and places to rent cars and scooters like Avis or Europacar (I ended up renting with both companies while there, so I do recommend).
If you fancy something a bit livelier, then you can always head to the fishing village of Toroni, which is a short drive away.
Staying at Egeon means you’re not far from the port. From there, you can catch one of the boats that offers the Toroneos tour which takes you to Aretes, Pefkohori and Kelifos Island, like the one I booked here.
I want to go back that’s all I can say! I loved my stay and enjoyed beautiful Egeon Studios in Neos Marmaras. Eleni helps bring your stay together and she was always ready to help and guide you with suggestions on things to do.
I definitely made the right choice and when I visit this leg of Halkidiki again – and I intend to – I’ll be staying here!
